Phonics Enrichment- Letter recognition will be practiced through beginning blending and one vowel reading. Introductory sight words, consonant blends, and digraphs are mastered. We also teach students how to outline a story. All skills are reinforced through printing and dictation practices.
Advanced Phonics/ Reading Comp- This class reinforces phonics, reading, and writing skills taught in Phonics Enrichment I, with a stronger emphasis on reading, comprehension, spelling, and book reports. Students will be introduced to short chapter books and begin reading independently.

Pre-Writing/ Reading Comp- Level C - Reading Fluency and comprehension are reinforced though the use of age-appropriate chapter books. Students are exposed to a wide variety of compositions such as writing paragraphs, poetry, letters, and are given an introduction to four types of writing.
Writing/ Reading Comp- Club1 - Students continue building upon the reading and writing skills taught in level C, with a stronger emphasis on vocabulary and grammar acquisition. An expanded writing curriculum focuses on narrative, descriptive, informative, and persuasive writing.

Reading and Writing-Club 2- With the foundation formed in Club 1, the students now expand their knowledge and competency with the basic elements taught in Club 1 by reexamining writing skills and learning how to apply them to increasingly more sophisticated writing situations. In Club 2, there is a stronger emphasis on vocabulary and grammar acquisition. An expanded writing curriculum focuses on informative, descriptive, narrative, and persuasive writing.
Reading and Writing-Club 3- Students learn to use grammatical knowledge to improve writing skills and apply critical thinking skills to more advanced reading quizzes. Intermediate informative, descriptive, narrative and persuasive writing skills are applied to real-life writing.
Reading and Writing-Club 4- Advanced application of grammatical knowledge to different forms of writing. Students will be trained to analyze their own writing in preparation for middle school.
Reading Comprehension, Summary Writing, And Vocabulary Development
This class will focus on increasing reading comprehension, developing a more sophisticated vocabulary, and further enhancing summary writing abilities. Students will learn how to identify major concepts and/or themes covered in a specific reading, and to discuss statements made, and learn tools to verify their own responses. They will use a formalized pre-reading strategy based on a series of statements related to concepts and/or themes that will be encountered in subsequent reading assignments.
